Doug Supernaw, who had a string of country music hits in the late 1990s, has passed away. He will be most remembered for his songs I Don’t Call Him Daddy and Reno. He was only 60 years old when he passed in Texas, and his premature death has been confirmed by his management team.

Supernaw announced that he had lung and bladder cancer in early 2019. He went into hospice care in October 2020 after the cancer spread.

His official Facebook page posted a statement which began: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gold Record Country Artist, Doug Supernaw.”

Doug was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He worked on oil rigs and first got into the music industry by promoting concerts in Texas.

He started opening for national acts that came through Tyler, Texas. He started getting a large local following, which then attracted the attention of BNA Entertainment, a record label in Nashville, TN.

His debut, breakthrough album was titled Red and Rio Grande. It went certified gold with the hit I Don’t Call Him Daddy which skyrocketed to number one on the country music charts. The song is about a divorced father and his son, and the music video featured Doug and his real son.

Doug is survived by his third wife, children, and grand children.

Rest in peace, Doug. You will be missed.
